FAQs

  1. What is M6DX?

M6DX is a group of radio enthusiasts who have formed to operate   amateur radio in different parts of the UK.

 2. Is M6DX the groups official callsign?

NO certainly not.  We all use our own callsigns but add the extra P for portable. During each contact we tell them about the group M6DX and what the group means.

 3. Why M6 and not M3?

When the idea of the DX group was suggested, the M3 callsigns were running out  so OFCOM introduced the M6 CALLSIGN AND THE FIRST 3 M6 CALLSIGNS IN THE UK WERE ISSUED TO OUR MEMBERS.  This does not mean that an M3 call sign operator cannot join M6DX.

 4. Who do I contact for more information?

There are two E-mail Addresses on our contacts page. We will be more than happy to give you any information you may require.

Sorry no telephone numbers as we believe in data protection.

5. Where do you operate from?

M6DX aim to operate from the usual and the un-usual places.  M6DX would like to tell you more but all our ideas are fresh and we don’t want some other groups stealing them.  Watch the Calendar of Events on the  (Events Page) for more information.  We are always open for ideas so please use the E-Mails on our Contacts Page.

6. Is the group available for charities and carnivals?

M6DX group will be working with charities to raise well deserved funds.  We have plans to contact several charities large and small including the special baby care unit in the local hospital.  Watch out for us at many supermarkets as your small change could make pounds which could save the life of a baby who may need special care.

At the moment M6DX group has no plans for carnivals, but this does not mean we are not available for such events.  We are a new group and the ideas are still in the planning process.  We must apologise now as M6DX will not be able to work in schools as we do not have the staff to cover such events at this time. We may be able to advise you who to contact for your event so contact us by E-Mail via our Contacts Page.  Sorry no phone numbers as we believe in data protection.  No E-Mail Addresses will be stored on any computer or passed on to any third party.

7. What happens to M6DX Group during the autumn – winter months?

One of the main changes is our vehicle.  We have two landrovers which keep us moving all year round.  All the aerials will be stripped and serviced ready to bring back into service in April.  We will still be on the air with our small tower which acts as a flag pole as well.  The group will be carrying out a lot of promoting work so we may appear all over the place. There is plenty of planning and arranging to do so we are expecting to be busy. We will still be on the air from our home stations as well.

Our aim will be even stronger next year and the years to come.  M6DX means a lot to us as we are sure it means a lot to you.

 8. What does the future hold for M6DX?

Our aim is to keep the hobby alive.  We all started in radio in many different ways and look at us all today.  If the hobby fails and we lose our bands, then its our own fault.  There are many clubs and societies throughout the UK, infact the world who hold regular classes for all levels of licence.

At the moment, the group is small, but we aim to bring as many people from all walks of life together who want the same as us. Simply, the hobby isn’t going away and neither are we.

Regular updates will hit the website so keep coming back.
